But here’s the scoop: fear can also be a guardian. It’s like a bouncer at the nightclub of opportunity, asking, “Are you on the list?” and if you’ve got the guys to take that step, guess what? It might just open the door for you.

Let’s get down the brass tacks. Why do we even feel it, what’s it up to in our heads?

Fearless Risk-Taking: Comfort Zone vs Growth Zone

Imagine this, your comfort zone is like a fluffy cloud- it’s comfy, safe, and predictable. But guess what? Nothing grows there. Growth happens just outside, in the growth zone. yep, that’s where risk-taking becomes your trusty sidekick.

The Journey begins, how do you make that leap from fearing everything to fearing nothing? It’s a journey, my friends.

  • Step 1: Spot your fears. To kick things off, let’s call out those fears. Write em down, give em name- get personal with your fears.
  • Step 2: Get to the roots. Ever wonder where these fears come from? It’s like digging for buried treasure. Find out what causing those jitters.
  • Step 3: Challenge those beliefs. Sometimes our fear is like those monsters under the bed- they are not real. Challenge your fears and see If they hold up.
  • Step 4: Set those goals what’s your endgame? Having a clear goal can turn that shaky step into a bold stride.
  • Step 5: Start small, think big. Don’t go diving headfirst into a pool of uncertainty. Start small, like dipping your toes into the water. You’ll build confidence as you go.

Q & A with Claudio

  1. How did you get started in photography, and what inspired you to pursue it as a career?

Lack of creativity sparked my interest in photography. I was working a corporate desk job and
felt like I needed motivation to do something creative, to break the cycle of the thinking I had
become accustomed to for nearly a decade. The career aspect wasn’t part of the plan initially.

2. How important is networking and building relationships within the photography industry for your career?

Everything; literally could end the response there. Relationships fuel and run this industry. Who
mentions your name in rooms when you are not present is a crucial component of the business.
The more people that have eyes on your work and you can connect them personally the better.

3. How do you approach capturing the decisive moments in a fast-paced game or event?

Repetition, situational awareness and knowing what you’re covering will set you up to capture the best image you can. Anticipating potential outcomes of the moment help keep you focused on the task. In short, think ahead.

4. What are some common mistakes or pitfalls that new sports photographers should be aware of and avoid?

I’m not a sports photographer solely but the following can be applied across the board:

  1. Biting more than you can chew. Meaning, trying to do too much before you’re ready.
Take baby steps and then build.
  2. Comparison to others. Everyone has their own path… stay true to yours.
  3. Not learning the capabilities and functionality of the camera in hand.
  4. Learn the business of photography. A lot of people get caught up in the creative and
don’t understand how to manage a business.
  5. Stay leveled. There will be good months and bad months. Can’t avoid the cyclical nature of the industry, have to learn to prepare for it all.

5. Can you share examples of your favorite photography projects or moments that have been most meaningful to you?

That’s tough, each project carries different meaning. At times it’s less about the image and more
about the journey or potential client. Most images on my website carry a special place in my
heart.

6. What advice do you have for new photographers to stay motivated and persistent in their pursuit of photography as a profession?

Remember why you fell in love with the camera and capturing photos. This industry is tough and
a lot of ways you can make a living within it. Stay true to what you enjoy capturing and create the art you want to get paid to shoot; not what you think people are looking for.

Hone your eye and your unique perspective of capturing images.

Practice. Practice. Practice. Remain patient.
